Favourite Summer Reads

Now if you know me well then you will know that I am the biggest book worm and absolutely LOVE to read! And if left to my own devices I can literally sit and read a book start to finish in one day – I may or may not have done this when the last Harry Potter book came out!

These days life is a little busier and my reading time has reduced somewhat, but I still love to settle down with a good book and its definitely something I am trying to do more of in 2020. In an attempt to make myself a little more accountable, and actually take some time out to read, I thought I would do a seasonal wrap up of what books I have read and how much I enjoyed them (hopefully)!  So here we go for the Summer months…

Taming the Wild by Kelly Wilson

If you are familiar with the New Zealand equestrian scene then you will have most definitely heard of the Wilson Sisters and as a result Kelly. If not then the Wilson Sisters are 3 sisters with an incredible talent for all things equestrian including the taming of wild horses. They have travelled the world taming wild horses and although this book is more of a how to guide, it does detail a lot of the experiences that they have gone through over the years and what each wild horse has taught them.

I have loved reading this book, not only for the stories that it has told but also for the practical steps and processes that you can apply to your normal domestic horse at home. It has taught me a lot and I am eager to see how this will translate into my own horses on a day to day basis.

What Happens Now? by Sophia Money-Coutts

This book made me laugh from start to finish, and is genuinely one of those books where it’s easy to read and it makes the perfect poolside/holiday read. You follow the main character Lil as she journeys through newly single life with a few hairy moments along the way. You’ll love all the characters and find it hard to put down – I know I did! In fact, I loved it so much I stayed up till midnight to finish it one night as I didn’t want to have to go through an entire work day to wait to finish it off!

The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k by Sarah Knight

I stumbled across this book after seeing a few people recommend it and as a recovering people pleaser I think it is great! It’s not as crude as what you might think from the title of the book, rather it gives you the tools to sit back and take note of everything that you are saying yes to…even when you don’t want to say yes!! It essentially centers around getting rid of unwanted obligations and feeling guilty or ashamed about doing so, and ensuring that you concentrate on doing the things that make you happy with the people who also make you happy.

I have found this book particularly helpful with planning our wedding – as it really helps to evaluate what is important and what isn’t! If you find yourself torn in 100 different directions and having no time for yourself or the things you actually like to do, then I would highly recommend that you read this book!

White Horses by Rachael Treasure

I have loved any book by Rachael Treasure for as long as I can remember! If you aren’t familiar with her then she is an Australian author whose books center around outback/rural Australia, and her ability to bring the outback to life through her books and characters makes her books amazing to read. This book in particular takes you through an emotional journey as you follow the main character Drift as she battles through life to become a strong woman. Being from a farming background I love reading stories that have farming at their core and this one talks about alternative farming as well, which I found rather interesting too!

Rachel Hunter’s Tour of Beauty with Emma Clifton

This book is essentially a written form of the television program that was released a couple of years ago. I loved the television show as it followed Rachel Hunter (who is a kiwi Supermodel) as she explores the world to discover all the different beauty tips and tricks unique to each culture. She explores places like Morocco, China, Fiji and Brazil, which were incredible to see, and along the way she tests a number of beauty tricks unique to each place.

I’ve loved following Rachel through social media and on this program as she is such a warm and authentic person, so to have been given a copy of this book was just delightful! If you can I would recommend watching the program as well as reading the book as they both complement each other really well.

Well, that’s a wrap on my reading for the summer months! I hope you have enjoyed seeing what I read – I do have quite a wide variety of books and genres that I like to read, mainly I think because I can’t say no to a good book! I’m really interested in knowing if you have read any of these books or if you have any recommendations for some that would be good to launch into over the Autumn! And I can’t wait to let you know what books I discover during the Autumn months!

Until next time,
